Performance comparison of data serialization schemes for ETSI ITS car-to-X communication systems

Wireless Car-to-X communication is about to enter the mass market in upcoming years. The non-licensed, but reserved bandwidth for such communications is relatively narrow in terms of the few usable channels and the expected number of communicating entities. Among other communication aspects, data serialization schemes that allow compact encoding as well as fast encoding and decoding are required.

Effective certificate distribution in ETSI ITS VANETs using implicit and explicit requests

Security and privacy of current Car-to-X systems heavily depends on the usage of pseudonym certificates. These carry the required information for authenticating messages received from other vehicles. However, only a limited amount of detailed studies about certificate distribution strategies in VANETs as well as attack surfaces of such systems has been proposed. Therefore, a general study about possible distribution mechanisms and their parametrization is provided in this work.

Early energy estimation of heterogeneous embedded networks within adaptive systems

This paper presents and evaluates a new approach of modeling energy consumption of communication within adaptive networked embedded systems. The objective is to enable energy estimation within early phases of system development, which allows system designers to compare different allocations of software components.

Privacy issues and pitfalls in VANET standards

Wireless vehicular networks are about to enter the deployment stage in the next years with important progress being made in Europe and the USA. Thereby, one of the core concerns is privacy of vehicles and their drivers, especially in Europe. Prior work has regarded only a small sub-set of the information exposed by current standards to an attacker for vehicle tracking. Thus, we take a close look on the data contained on different protocol layers of an ETSI ITS system.

Bayesian sensor fusion of Wi-Fi signal strengths and GNSS code and carrier phases for positioning in urban environments

In urban environments GNSS signals can be either blocked by buildings, so that the number of satellites with direct line-of-sight (LOS) is reduced considerably, or reflected by surfaces, so that signals from the same satellite are received over multiple paths. Taking into account all available signals would typically result in a rather poor position estimate. It is therefore essential to distinguish LOS from non-LOS or multipath-contaminated signals and include this information in the GNSS process model.

ICT-architecture for multi-modal electric vehicles
